Srila Prabhupada's bhajan kutir in Bhubaneswar has been totally destroyed by the Government of India's National Highways Authority. This sacred site, built by Srila Gour Govinda Swami for his beloved Gurudeva, was the place where in 1977 His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada stayed for 17 days to lay the foundation stone of the Krsna-Balarama Temple. This is also where Srila Prabhupada began his work translating and commenting on the tenth canto of the Srimad Bhagavatam. It has now been senselessly destroyed. Attached to Srila Prabhupada's now-destroyed bhajan kutir is the samadhi of Srila Gour Govinda Swami. This is for the time being, still standing thanks to the intervention of Sri Sacinandana prabhu. Government officials backed by armed police destroy Srila Prabhupada's bhajan kutir,
The most recent information we have received on the situation at Bhubaneswar is that the Government is no longer threatening any further destruction on the Temple site. The devotees will construct a new wall and gate, and will rebuild Srila Prabhupada's bhajan kutir as it was originally, next to the Samadhi Mandir of Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami.
Whilst this is all a big relief, we are still concerned as the Bhajan Kutir and Samadhi are not on Temple owned property. They are now on Government owned land, and whilst all is well for the foreseeable future, we are worried that at some point years from now further threat may again arise.
